In today’s meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing, Construction and Community Development, Senator Catharine Young, the newly-appointed committee chair, voted against S443, a bill introduced by Liz Krueger that would have permitted New York City to strengthen its own rent regulation laws. The bill was defeated in committee. (0:34 in video)

Young then voted against S448, also introduced by Krueger. That bill would have┬áprevented landlords from using a preferential rent loophole to jack up a tenant’s regulated rent beyond the maximum percentage allowed by the DHCR. The bill was defeated in committee as well. (2:48 in video)
